TO THE LOVELIEST CLOUD

I’m sorry for asking you to sun.

Always trying to convince you

of picnics and beaches and vitamin d.

I’d forgotten that with this daisy

skin, I burn through a car window.

Forgotten that fog is my favorite

weather, rolling in low in our candy

colored neighborhood. Making

the sometimes green hills real

green. I’d forgotten how much

I hate to squint. Our bed is a ship

we never have to get off. You sail

it smooth through boulders and sirens

using the stars as a compass.

Never the sun. Never the stupid sun.
